Per WREG News Channel 3 out of Memphis, Marion head boys basketball coach and Dean of Students Irving Clay has been suspended by the school with pay. Clay was absent for Marion’s first-round game against Lake Hamilton last Wednesday evening in Russellville. Prior to the game, Marion athletic director Paul Johnston declined comment on Clay’s absence. The team was coached by first-year assistant coach Dakota Weatherley in a 66-39 loss. Last Friday morning, Marion Superintendent Don Johnston declined comment on Clay’s status at the school, citing the advice of the district’s attorneys. Clay has been the head basketball coach at Marion since the 2004-2005 school year and led the team to a 14-11 record this season, including a 9-5 mark in the 7A/6A-East.
