New computers for Earle Library

Purchase part of $8,000 GIF grant

Earle library is off to a good start for the new year. Librarian P.J. Ewing said the library received two new computers and has two more on the way, and hopefully some new tables and chairs too. “I’m still working hard to get some other things for the library,” Ewing said. The money to buy two new Dell computers came from a grant from the state’s General Improvement Fund, or GIF. Ewing said the library received $8,000 in GIF funds. “I was thrilled when I was notified we got that grant,” Ewing said. The other two computers were donated to the library by an unnamed donor. “I can’t say who it is just yet because they want to come and make a presentation,” Ewing said. “But the library board has already ordered the other two.” Ewing said they still have about $7,000 left over and has already spoken to the library board about buying an all-in-one printer/FAX/copy machine, as well as some new tables and chairs. She’s also hoping to see some more progress on getting a new library built. The current library is only 600 square feet and isn’t big enough to accommodate all of the programs offered at the library. The current building also has major heating and air issues and doesn’t meet fire or safety codes. The city has offered to give the library land that it owns across the street from Young’s grocery store — or any other piece of land that it owns. “I guarantee you are going to continue to see good things happening at this library in 2016,” Ewing said. “And I am just so appreciative of all of the support we get from the city and our library board. This is for the children, after all.”
