Marion A&P to sponsor Baber MPAC concert

By Mark Randall

Marion Advertising and Promotions Commission has caught Barrett Baber fever too! A&P officials agreed to a request by Marion school district to help underwrite the cost of a special homecoming concert featuring Baber to the tune of $7,500. “Everybody was very enthusiastic,” said Marion Mayor Frank Fogleman. “I think everyone agrees that one night with a home town guy who has done well is great for Marion. I’m looking forward to it.” Marion A&P is in charge of spending the proceeds from the city’s on cent tax on prepared foods. Baber will perform a special show at the newly opened Marion Performing Arts Center on Jan. 21. Tickets are already on sale and going fast at the 900 seat venue. Local fans enthusiastically rooted Baber on during his run on The Voice. Baber went all the way to the finals and finished third in the competition. He dazzled the audience with a duet along with his coach, country singer Blake Shelton, of “Rhinestone Cowboy,” and crooned Thomas Rhett’s “Die a Happy Man” and capped his performance with a lullaby version of “Silent Night.” There is also a chance that Baber could perform a second encore acoustic show if the event is a sell out. Fogleman said the show is a great way to see an up and coming talent. “One person who was at the meeting said she saw Carrie Underwood perform in Nashville just after she had won American Idol,” Fogleman said. “And here she is now the opening act for ‘Monday Night Football.’ So this could be a chance to witness some history being made with Barrett Baber in our city.”
