The brand-new Marion Performing Arts Center will be the place to be on Thursday, Jan. 21, when “Barrett Baber: The Hometown Show” makes its way to the MPAC. Barrett Baber, just off of his success as a finalist for hit NBC singing competition “The Voice,” returns to his hometown of Marion for a concert in front of local fans, many of whom played a role in his success on “The Voice.” Each week, as Baber worked his way through the competition, Baber “watch parties” were a common occurrence all over Crittenden County, and social media sites were lighting up locally with support for the Arkansas musician, with #BABERFEVER garnering plenty of attention from area tweeters. Tickets went on sale just before midnight on Thursday and quickly began working toward a sell-out of the 900-seat venue. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online via the Marion Performing Arts Center’s Facebook page. Less than 200 tickets were still available late Friday afternoon. Baber, son of Mark and Janie Baber, previously saw national exposure by winning the CBS Grammy “Gig of a Lifetime” in 2014. Baber’s country-flavored rock was a hit with Grammy attendees, and last year, he placed third on “The Voice,” behind winner Jordan Smith and runner-up Emily Ann Roberts. “Barrett Baber returns to his roots in Marion, Arkansas for a hometown concert that you’ll never forget,” promises promotional material for the concert. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.
