CYT to hold auditions for ‘Jungle Book’

Crittenden Youth Theatre gearing up for first production of 2016

From Alex Smith DeltaARTS, CYT Coordinator

Auditions for the DeltaARTS Crittenden Youth Theatre K-8 production of Disney’s “The Jungle Book, KIDS” will be held Thursday, Jan. 7 and Saturday, Jan. 9, at Faulk Elementary School in West Memphis. Trent Pierce, M.D., Family Practice Center of West Memphis is sponsor. Students in grades K-8 can audition either Thursday at 6 p.m. or Saturday at 10 a.m. Some auditioners will be called back to read for specific roles on Sunday, Jan. 10, at 2 p.m., so everyone auditioning should keep that time open. All students who audition will be cast. The jungle is jumpin’ with a jazzy beat in Disney’s The Jungle Book, KIDS. Specially adapted from the classic Disney animated film and the works of Rudyard Kipling, this show features a host of colorful characters and everyone’s favorite songs from the movie while following the “man cub” Mowgli through the jungle as he learns what it means to be human. Those auditioning should come prepared to sing 30 seconds of a song, and they need to bring musical accompaniment with them. All music must be INSTRUMENTAL ONLY and cannot feature another voice. Auditioners may bring sheet music for piano, a CD, or a device that has an auxiliary port (e.g. iPod, smart phone, tablet, iPad). Students will also dance at the auditions, so comfortable clothes and shoes are required. Dresses, skirts, boots, sandals, or flip-flops should NOT be worn to auditions. A mandatory informational meeting for parents will be held Tuesday, Jan. 12, from 6-7 p.m. at Faulk Elementary. Participation and costume fees will be collected at this meeting. Performances are Thursday, March 10, at 12:30 and 7 p.m. and Friday, March 11, at 7 p.m. For more information, please call Alex Smith at (870) 732-6260 or visit deltaarts.org/youth-theatre.
