The Arkansas Razorbacks roll into the Liberty Bowl in Memphis on Jan. 2 to take on the Kansas State Wildcats from the Little Apple, Manhattan, Kansas. The City of West Memphis has made plans for fans to roll right in behind the Hogs. Word is being spread across the state about a free shuttle run from the Comfort Suites in West Memphis at noon to the big game and back. The city partnered with MATA for a free ride for Razorback fans. West Memphis put the shuttle service together to promote hotel stays and restaurant visits, for Arkansans to deposit their tourism dollars in the Gateway City instead of the Bluff City and placed ads in the Arkansas Gazette to draw fans statewide into staying here. The idea is for fans to go “whole hog” and support their home team by staying and dining in their home state. The ride is limited to three bus-fulls, and riders will board on a first come first serve basis. The outer parking lot at the hotel holds about 150 vehicles, just about the number of slots to fill those buses. The return trip runs an hour after the final whistle. West Memphis Director of Development Ward Wimbish helped forge the deal with MATA and the Comfort Suites and he hoped the effort promote the Wonder City. “We will be providing the free shuttle service from West Memphis to the Autozone Liberty Bowl game,” said Wimbish. “Comfort Suites is a shuttle co-sponsor. They have a great parking lot and it is easy to get to. Let’s give the visitors a free ride.” The free shuttle is open to locals, too. “If anybody is going, the ride is free,” said Wimbish. Information is being offered through the city office of tourism office of about the free shuttle at email@example.com.
