Marion back in action today at 2:30 PM

A big second quarter for Whitehaven sunk the Marion Lady Patriots during their opening contest at the Collierville Dragon Fire Invitational on Saturday. Whitehaven led 8-7 after the first quarter, but outscored Marion 21-10 in the second stanza to lead 29-17 at the break before clinching a 55-40 win to stay in the winner’s bracket. Marion is back in action today at 2:30 PM. The Lady Pats (5-5 overall) got a team-high 13 points from forward Jakyya Clay, 12 points from senior post player Ebony Day, 6 from Tei Boston, 4 from Kennedi Boykins and 2 apiece from Tyquesha Selvy, Zhani Harris, and a point from Mya McCray. Whitehaven got a game-high 30 points from Ariel Williams, including 9 during that big second quarter. Brown chipped in with 10 points of her own. It was Marion’s fourth loss in five outings. The Lady Pats will play three more games in Collierville on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before opening league play on Friday, January 8. They will play at Lehr Arena against the West Memphis Lady Blue Devils. West Memphis was also at Collierville and they won their opener 55-17 against Memphis Westwood. The Lady Blue Devils play today at 1:30 PM.
