Bunko

The Horseshoe Lake Ladies Bunko Group played on Dec. 15. This month hostess was Pat Walters, she also won the roll off between her and Suzette Cupples for most big bunko’s. Suzette had high score for the evening. Lethia Jo Cupples won low score and had traveler’s pillow. The ladies enjoyed Hawaiian Ham Sandwiches, Pinwheels, Grape Fruit Salad, Spinach Dip, Picante Dip, Dried Beef Dip, with assorted crackers, chip and Hawaiian Bread. For dessert they had 5-Cup Salad, Peanut Clusters and Fudge. The ladies also exchanged Christmas gifts.

Congratulations to Vince and Deanna Mc Dermott of Horseshoe Lake, as they welcome their newest grand child. Leighton Lorine Harris was born on Dec. 19, at 7:20 p.m. She weighed 5 pounds 15 oz. and was 19 inches long. Her parents are Rebecca & Michael Harris of Jonesboro, Arkansas. Leighton also has older siblings, Sarah and Hunter.

*** Garden Club

The Hughes Town and Country Garden Club (HTCGC) met on Dec. 18 at the Hughes United Methodist Church. Hostesses this month were Kendra Hayes, Sherry Dodd and Holly Bacon. Guests this month were Janey Carpenter and Sherry May. This year instead of exchanging gifts, everyone gave a monetary donation and gave it to the Food Bank in Hughes. Regular monthly meetings will resume in March 2016. A Board of Managers meeting will be held in February, date to be set later. The ladies enjoyed a lunch of Fried Chicken, Green Beans, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Rolls, Boston Crème Cake, prepared by St. Francis Restaurant in Hughes. This month’s program was verses from the Bible and Barb Mc Kee played the Ukulele while everyone sang “Joy To The World” and “Silent Night. They also got to review the past history of HTCGC, by looking at Scrapbooks. The HTCGC was organized April 1, 1949. and currently has 20 active members. Congratulations go to Teresa Shannon, she will be the Chairperson for the 2017 State Flower Show. Door prizes were awarded to: Jobelle Johnston-Amaryllis, Jeanette Cumbia-Christmas Ornament and Sherry May-Decorative Spade.
