Bulldogs stop Helena, bust B.I.C.

Since starting the season with a loss in Wynne, the Earle Bulldogs have been on a monster roll. Last Friday night, Earle got to 5-1 overall when they roughed up Class 4A Central High from Helena-West Helena by a 58-49 tally and they moved to 6-1 and 2-0 in the district when they bounced league rival Buffalo Island Central in Monette 73-59. The game against Central High was the second game of the annual West Memphis Blue Devil Classic at Lehr Arena. That contest saw the usual stiff brand of Bulldog defense as Earle forced 15 turnovers. The offense was different, however. Earle eschewed their aggressive drives to the basket for a number of shots from three-point range against the Cougars. The result was a 3 of 20 showing from that range, as well as a game that was tight all the way. Earle got 13 points from Marquise Brown, while his brother, Marcus, hit for 11. Mark Thomas also scored 11 and Cortez Banks went for 10. Thomas led Earle in rebounds with 15, and he also blocked 2 shots, as well as 2 assists. Marquise Brown handed out a team-high 3 assists. The Bulldogs won the rebounding battle 38-33 and lost just 8 turnovers. Kam Davis hit for 10 points for Central High while Tikal Smith and Aswig Dilan each hit for 8 apiece for the Cougars.
