Out-of-town teams feature Pine Bluff, Wynne and Osceola

Basketball junkies you can get your post-Thanksgiving Feast fixes in the next few days in West Memphis. The Blue Devil Classic at Lehr Arena takes place this Friday and Saturday with four games each day and the Wonder Junior High Classic will happen Dec. 7-8. The Blue Devils, holding a 3-3 record after two wins in the New Madrid (Mo.) Classic last weekend, will play on Friday at 8:30 p.m. to cap off the four-game bonanza. West Memphis will face Blytheville on that night. Then on Saturday, the Blue Devils will face Pine Bluff at 5 p.m. The rest of Friday’s games are as follows: Wynne, which is coached by former Blue Devil star Russell Jones, will play Osceola at 4 p.m., Earle will play Helena-West Helena at 5:30 p.m. and Marion will face off against Pine Bluff at 7 p.m. On Saturday the action will get under way at 2 p.m. with Helena-West Helena against Osceola while Blytheville battles Marion at 3:30 and at 6:30 p.m. Memphis Trezevant plays Wynne. Last weekend at New Madrid, the Blue Devils blew out Kennett, Mo., 66-42 behind Demarious Hudson’s 14 points while Gary Ward pumped in 9. Martavious Johnson, Kevin Smith and Ahmere Albert all added 8. On Saturday, the Blue Devils completed the sweep with a 51-44 victory over Scott County Central as Ward and sophomore Zachary Byrd scored 10 points apiece and Albert chipped in 9. The Golden Lions Classic begins Dec. 7 with four games beginning with Marion versus the Bay girls at 4 p.m., followed by Bay versus the East Junior High boys at 5:30. At 7 p.m. the Wonder girls will play Rivercrest and at 8:30 p.m. the Wonder boys will battle Bartlett. On Dec. 8, the East girls clash with Rivercrest at 4 p.m., followed by the Marion boys against Bay at 5:30 p.m. The Wonder girls face off against Bay at 7 p.m. and the Wonder boys conclude the Classic with an 8:30 p.m. contest with Rivercrest.
