EAFHC gives Thanksgiving baskets to families in need

Health center helps community members experiencing ‘tough times’

East Arkansas Family Health Center packed up groceries and household items for half a dozen families Friday morning. Each department at the health center on 7th Street picked a family to give extra boost to at Thanksgiving time. “These items are donated by employees,” said Glenda Clemmons as she sorted boxes. “We pick patients families. After we have it packed up we call the families and tell them we have it ready for them. They can come and get it or we drop it off to them.” Each department listened to people before making their pick. Often those struggling with medical conditions have unnoticed needs. Those issues often come up with visits to the doctors at EAFHC. That is why each department makes a choice to help someone at Thanksgiving. “They know who is going through tough times,” said Clemmons. “That is how we choose.” A big turkey and a ham along with cooking utensils and pans made up the huge boxes. Fixings for side dishes and desert were included. Even the places at the table were ready to be set with plates, cups and napkins provided. Thanksgiving isn’t the only time of the year EAFHC helps families. A community fair distributed school supplies late this summer too. “Really many needs come up throughout the year,” said Clemmons. “Sometimes someone may have a hard time paying for their medicine and are blessed when it is paid for by someone here. We recently built a handicap ramp at a house. Many times we take collections to help people.”
