West Memphis to play Wynne today
By Billy Woods WM School District
Earle head coach Billy Joe Murray unleashed his talented bunch of Bulldogs on Class 7A West Memphis Monday on the first day of the Marion Classic for a 59-40 victory,. West Memphis (0-3) was never in the game as Earle bolted to a 12-3 lead after one quarter and a 29-13 lead at halftime. “We just got outplayed, outhustled and (Earle) wanted it more than we did,” said Blue Devil head coach Larry Bray. “We didn’t show up ready to play and we stunk it up. That simple.” The talent differential, as hard as it might be to believe, was mountainous. Earle had far better personnel, and it showed right off the bat. Furthermore, the Bulldogs were playing without perhaps their best player in sophomore guard Gary Bohanon, who is just rounding into basketball shape following football season. Still, point guard Marcus Brown led all scorers with 22 points, hitting an array of shots from all over the floor. Marquise Brown pumped in 14 points and Murray’s son, B.J., hit for eight. West Memphis got 12 points from junior Tevin Mosley while Jarquez McClendon hit six and Gary Ward chipped in five. The Blue Devils will conclude their play in the Classic today with a 4:45 p.m. game against Wynne.
